November 29th

The ticket has been purchased and the date is November 29th. 23 hours of travel and 3 stops will take me to Chile. Time keeps ticking away and it gets more and more real. More and more exciting and more and more nerve wracking. I usually start to get nervous when I am doing routine things like brushing my teeth or putting clothes away. My mind drifts off into the possibilities of how the routine things will be like there. Will I get to work out? What kind of breakfast will I eat? I assume my morning protein shakes aren't going to be on the menu!  I do know that I will either share a room with 4 other girls and 1 bathroom with 8 people. Or stay with a family in a bed and breakfast type situation. Not sure which would be better? My current employer will allow me to work part time remotely while I am gone and to come back when I return. This is all a big plus! In my closet sits a new waterproof jacket and pants, some wool sweaters, and a vest. All of course "must needs" for this trip! I might have gone a bit over board, but what was I gonna do with the 3 pairs of flip flops and 5 ribbed tank tops, all in different colors, down in 50 degree weather?
Since most of the materialistic preparation is done, now comes the mental prep! Trying to spend time with, going to be missed, friends and family and telling myself everything is going to be fine is what I have been doing to prepare!

Look for me on the day of my trip..I will have plenty of time to write!

Any suggestions on how to get myself ready to leave a life of comfort for some time in adventure-land are  appreciated!

  1. LOL - Im in the same dilemma times one hundred (leaving San Diego for 2 years, with no job or place to come back to), so when I figure that one out, Ill let you know!

No but really, the secret is....you dont have to worry about leaving your life of comfort, because you know that everything will be the same when you get back, its ONLY 4 months and though that might sound long to you now, it will go by SUPER fast and before you know it, you'll be back. Just think back to 4 months ago...July...does that seem like that long ago? Sure your gonna miss a couple holidays, but that feeling wont compare to the new expereinces you'll have under your belt and things you can talk about when you get back. Trust me, the fact that you have a job and your boyfriend's warm, cozy house waiting for you when you get back...is really a dream situation!

  2. First of all I am soooo proud of you for following you gut feeling and going to Chile. Second, just as Nicole T. said everyone will still be here, and you won't be missing anything. These four months will go by super fast, and before you know you will be back in sunny San Diego, and it will seem as if you never left. Plus you can call anyone one of us anytime, or email anytime! I love you and I am proud of you! Don't forget that!
